چکیده
PurposeTemporal lobe epilepsy is associated with tissue abnormalities of several gray and white matter structures that are reproduced in animal models. Few longitudinal studies have focused on the identification structural differences during epileptogenesis. The diffusion tensor model a useful tool for evaluating cell death, gliosis, axonal plasticity epileptic subjects. This study aimed to evaluate temporal changes after experimental status epilepticus an chronic epilepsy.MethodsSystemic pilocarpine-induced adult Sprague-Dawley rats. Animals were scanned using imaging (DTI) at three time points: prior epilepticus, 24 64 days post-induction (early late chronic, respectively). Fractional anisotropy, apparent coefficient, axial diffusivity (D║), radial (D┴) evaluated (fimbria, cingulum, corpus callosum, internal capsule) (dorsal hippocampus, dentate gyrus, CA3) regions points. Histological assessment neurodegeneration Klüver-Barrera preparations from same animals was performed.ResultsSignificantly reduced volume dorsal hippocampus fimbria observed already post-status epilepticus. Progressive DTI parameters both group also observed. Stained sections confirmed such alterations.ConclusionOur revealed time-dependent characterization these alterations over may be potential markers

Longitudinal changes in white matter microstructure after heavy cannabis use
Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies of cannabis users report alterations in brain white matter microstructure, primarily based on cross-sectional research, and etiology of the alterations remains unclear. We report findings from longitudinal voxelwise analyses of DTI data collected at baseline and at a 2-year follow-up on 23 young adult (18-20 years old at baseline) regular cannabis users an...
متن کاملAccelerated changes in white matter microstructure during aging: a longitudinal diffusion tensor imaging study.
It is well established that human brain white matter structure changes with aging, but the timescale and spatial distribution of this change remain uncertain. Cross-sectional diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies indicate that, after a period of relative stability during adulthood, there is an accelerated decline in anisotropy and increase in diffusivity values during senescence; and, spatiall...
متن کاملHippocampal Expression of Connexin36 and Connexin43 during Epileptogenesis in Pilocarpine Model of Epilepsy
Background: Gap junctions (GJs) provide direct intercellular communications that are formed by hexameric protein subunits, called connexin (Cx). The role of Cxs in epileptogenesis has not received sufficient attention. Hippocampus with critical function in epileptogenesis has a wide network of GJs. We examined the protein expression levels of hippocampal Cx36 (the prominent Cx present between G...
متن کاملImproved prediction of Alzheimer's disease with longitudinal white matter/gray matter contrast changes.
Brain morphometry measures derived from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are important biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD). The objective of the present study was to test whether we could improve morphometry-based detection and prediction of disease state by use of white matter/gray matter (WM/GM) signal intensity contrast obtained from conventional MRI scans. We hypothesized that including...
متن کاملNeurofeedback training induces changes in white and gray matter.
The main objective of this structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study was to investigate, using diffusion tensor imaging, whether a neurofeedback training (NFT) protocol designed to improve sustained attention might induce structural changes in white matter (WM) pathways, purportedly implicated in this cognitive ability. Another goal was to examine whether gray matter (GM) volume (GMV) m...
